Women MPs in Yorkshire

Women MPs in Yorkshire & the Humber

Women over the age of 30 got the vote on 6 February 1918, and those under thirty were enfranchised in July 1928.

However, Yorkshire had to wait until 1945 for its first female MPs, when two were elected. Since then there have been a total of 23 women MPs in the region, the vast majority of them being elected in or after 1997.

Currently, 23% of the region’s MPs are women – a little ahead of the national figure of 19.7%.
