I feel my greatest enemy has been the cooking stove – a sort of tyrant who has kept me in subjection .

 

I believed in complete equality and was not prepared to be a camp follower, or a member of what seemed to me a permanent Social Committee, or official Cake-Maker to the Labour Party.
