'In Our Own Words', a collection of women's quotations, has been launched to celebrate the centenary of International Women's Day this year.
The collection (at In Our Own Words) contains over 550 quotes from 166 women, including many not found in other collections and many from British women politicians and campaigners unrepresented elsewhere.
Launching the collection CFWD's Director Nan Sloane said; 'Most standard collections of quotations contain very few women, and many of the entries that are included are derogatory rather than anything else. This collection celebrates women's contribution - most of them are short and pithy, and we hope theyre both memorable and useful.'
Subjects covered range from international relations to shopping, housework to government, philosophy to childbirth. The collection is a work in progress - it's not yet indexed by subject, for instance - but it represents the first stage of a major project both to record what women are saying now and to retrieve what's been said in the past.
