Fawcett Society finds women's representation 'stagnant'

18 May, 2017

A new Fawcett Society report predicts that women's representation in the Westminster Parliament will 'flatline' at the general election, with the percentage of women moving by less than 1% and the number of women MPs increasing by just one.

The report found that 'In terms of the overall picture of candidates, regardless of whether they are likely to win, 41% of Labour candidates are women, up from 34% in 2015. The proportion of Conservative candidates who are women is 29%, up from 26% at the last election, and the Liberal Democrats have risen from 26% to 30%. The proportion of SNP candidates who are women has fallen slightly from 36% to 33%.'
